ONO | First ever 3D printer for smartphones

ONO uses Android to bring affordable 3D printing right to your smartphone

Tech company ONO has one simple goal: to make 3D printing accessible for everyone. Bringing together engineers, researchers and designers, the company has developed the world’s first 3D printer that connects to a dedicated smartphone app. In just ten minutes, anyone can learn how to create 3D sculptures using specially designed resins that react to the light of a smartphone screen. ONO has a team of 45 developers working on Android, which is a key platform for the company as it moves from development to launch. “Our aim is to create technology that is both accessible and affordable. Because Android is available on such a wide selection of devices, we can reach more people and attract a more diverse range of audiences, especially people in emerging markets,” says Pietro Gabriele, CEO. As well as helping ONO build market share, Android enables the company to enhance the user experience by enabling the app and printer to sync perfectly with phone settings. “The fluidity of operations such as airplane mode, which is essential to operating our printer, is so intuitive,” says Pietro. “And Android devices allow the app to send requests direct to the print server, which makes the operation smoother.” With crowdfunding secured from investors in 140 countries, ONO is now ready to put the power of 3D printing into the hands of Android users worldwide.
