Android feeds innovation at Datalogic
Datalogic is a world leader in automated data collection devices, including barcode readers, mobile computers and QR scanners. Serving customers across the retail, manufacturing, logistics and healthcare sectors, the company recently launched its first Android device, the PDA-DL-Axist, and is looking to make it the new standard platform across its professional data collection solutions. “Android is critical for a company that wants to innovate. It’s the go-to platform for the professional environment,” says Francesco Montanari, Vice President and General Manager of the Mobile Computing Business Unit. “Android has brought innovation to our software design thanks to its agility and openness, and the fact we can use an incremental development approach.” Using the Android operating system enables Datalogic to provide customers with standardised solutions, which makes the transition to new devices in the workplace smoother in terms of staff training and compatibility with other equipment. With three new Android devices in the pipeline, the company has increased its Android team, and now employs several dozen developers. “Moving to Android has been like opening up a whole new set of possibilities. There is far greater versatility with regards to the tools available,” says Francesco. “We have only just started working with Android, but the interest among our customer base has been increasing constantly.”
