France Télévisions goes global via YouTube
The Internet age is seeing traditional broadcasters such as France Télévisions learn to master new channels. For the past 3.5 years, Head of Digital Development Christophe Cluzel has been targeting a new audience on YouTube. He explains: “It’s where the teenage audience meets the young adult audience (18–25 year olds). We focus on young people, encouraging them to watch programmes again and leading them to programmes that have done well on the channel.”
The legendary French cartoon series ‘Little Brown Bear’ ranked 3rd for viewings in France in 2014. This success enabled the team to grow from one to six people and boost its business. Christophe continues: “We work on more than 30 different productions across 130 channels. We’ve built up a solid database via YouTube and we got 500 million views in 2014.” This growth doesn’t stop at the French-speaking market, as Christophe adds: “We’ve developed YouTube channels in English, Spanish and now in Portuguese for Brazil.”
