A small blog turns into huge site
When Julien Faliu created his online community for expats in 2005, he never dreamed that, nine years later, it would be the biggest French-language website for expats and one of the world’s top three.
“I started using Google AdSense in 2009, with the aim of monetising my blog,” he explains. “I needed sponsors to keep going.” The site’s sales grew rapidly, enabling him to take on additional staff in 2010.
Today, Julien employs 15 people and is still hiring. The site gets three million visits a month, and has 1.25 million members around the world. AdSense accounts for around 35% of its total income, and up to 75% of turnover in some regions, including Asia and the Middle East.
“Google products are really suited to the needs of an expanding site,” says Julien. “They’ve helped me to believe in my project, and to concentrate on the technical side by providing me with lots of support in terms of sales.”
