Google AdSense is Cut Out + Keep’s third employee in charge of monetisation

When she graduated from the University of Dundee in 2007, Cat Morley’s fiancé and business partner Tom Waddington helped her turn her craft and cooking blog into a website called Cut Out + Keep. From early on, Google AdSense served as their “third employee”. Tom explains: “We saw AdSense on other sites and trusted it because it was a Google product. Its major appeal was that it offered the ability for us to earn money from the site, without spending a lot of time doing so.”

With AdSense monetising the site, Cat and Tom could focus on their true passion – growing Cut Out + Keep. Today, the site has 192,000 registered users and gets 1 million visits every month. Just two years ago, with AdSense paying the rent and providing 100% of Cut Out + Keep’s monetisation, Tom was able to quit his other job and focus full-time on the site. More recently, after attending a Google AdSense In Your City event, Tom and Cat started using ads of different sizes as well as text ads. Since then, Tom says, “Our income from AdSense has grown approximately four times.”
