International collaboration and millions of views online
Production company UNIT9 often employs film to tell compelling stories and the company uses YouTube to reach a wide number of people and maximise the impact of its work. One of the projects UNIT9 produced, “Most Shocking Second A Day”, attracted an amazing 21 million views in only five days and the video currently has around 44 million views. “YouTube offers us a platform to reach a large number of people and have an excellent chance of having a real impact,” says IT Manager Richard Smith. Apart from the exposure offered by YouTube, Google helps UNIT9 operate a successful international business in a number of ways. “We have offices in both Europe and America, developing stories that unfold on different platforms and devices,” explains Richard. “Our entire workflow is heavily centred around Google Apps. Gmail, Drive, Google Docs, Calendar and Hangouts encourage company-wide collaboration even though our employees work all over the world.” UNIT9’s team of developers also uses Google App Engine daily to manage a number of backend-heavy applications simply and easily.
