Turkcell enables unbanked subscribers to purchase mobile applications on Google Play
As a leading digital carrier in Turkey, Turkcell fulfills communication needs of millions in the country. In time, the company realized a large group of subscribers, that are under 25 and interested in mobile applications yet unable to make digital transactions due to being unbanked or refraining from sharing bank account details online. As a result, Turkcell Payment Services was founded in 2015. For the first time in Turkey, Android users could purchase apps with their phone number.
Collaboration with Google helped the carrier accelerate the conversion of subscribers to mobile shoppers. Thanks to successful co-funded cash back and bonus campaigns, more than 1.1 million subscribers used Turkcell as a payment channel on Google Play. According to Onur Güven, Manager of Mobile Payment Services and Digital Money Products, the first half of 2017 saw a high conversion ratio. “We believe the seamless experience we are able to offer on Android plays a vital role in achieving this success.” he added.
Aiming to create the ultimate online payment service, Turkcell thinks Google is a strategic partner to make it possible, and looks forward to collaborating on future projects.
