Roi Scroll and Actívate drive digital marketing in Galicia
Laura Doval had been part of the marketing team at a local newspaper in Galicia for several years when she lost her job in 2014 due to the economic crisis. “I suddenly realised that my experience wouldn’t count for anything these days unless I had some knowledge of digital marketing. So I signed up for the basic digital marketing course, one of the initiatives offered by Google’s Actívate project,” she says. Fully aware of the importance of updating her skills to stay competitive within the industry, Laura continued her training, specialising in digital marketing and taking the online web analytics and e-commerce courses. “I was amazed to find out about all the data that can be measured and the opportunities that the online world has to offer,” Laura explains. Through the course, she came into contact with online marketing agency Roi Scroll, who were speakers on the course and a member of Google Partners – a Google programme aimed at helping and supporting agencies. A few months later, the same agency offered her a job in their social media department, managing an account promoting tourism. Laura has been able to put all the new skills she acquired to good use at Roi Scroll, from creating adverts to improving the social media strategy. “I’m really passionate about social media and it’s the future of advertising, so I’m thinking about getting more training in this area,” she explains. The company hasn’t been in the market very long but is quickly winning new clients in Galicia, and the number of employees has doubled in the last year alone.
When I found myself out of a job, Actívate helped me to get back on my feet and enabled me to learn a new discipline which I’m now really passionate about.
