Google Campus offers nurturing space for “genius” BorrowMyDoggy concept to grow

BorrowMyDoggy has been described in the media as a “genius” idea – and it was brought to life at London’s Google Campus. The idea behind the site came to Co-founder Rikke Rosenlund when she wondered, “Why are people spending so much money on dog walkers and kennels when I’d love to take care of their dog for free?” Teaming up with Les Cochrane, who has a background in web design and development, Rikke launched BorrowMyDoggy in late 2013. The site matches dog owners with local borrowers for walkies, playdays, sleepovers and happy holidays. Dog owners pay £44.99 a year to list their pets, while borrowers pay £9.99 a year. A total of 85 people signed up for BorrowMyDoggy in the first 3 days after it went live – and the site now has thousands of members. As far as Rikke’s concerned, Google Campus provided a “passionate, caring, helpful community” to nurture the concept. Meanwhile, Les says: “Google Campus networking events and being able to talk to other incubators, investors and entrepreneurs are a huge benefit”. Ultimately, both agree on one thing: “Google is all about having fun and thinking differently.”
