Alex Alemany, the teenager inspiring the developer community with his passion for technology
At first sight, Alex Alemany may look just like any other teenager, but the 15-year-old is already making his mark as the Founder of Google Developers Group Menorca. “From a young age, I’ve always been interested in mobile phones and how they work. I like to be up to date with technological advances and I attend events in the sector whenever I can,” he says. It was this interest that brought him to GDG Devfest Barcelona 2015, where he impressed organisers so much that they suggested he founded GDG Menorca. “At first, I thought it was a joke! But then I got in touch with some developers and, in July 2015, Google approved our proposal for a community.” The GDG organises events in Menorca to promote new technologies and Alex also gives talks in schools and colleges on Google tools for the classroom. Despite being the Founder of the group, Alex is the only member who isn’t a developer – but he tells us this is only a matter of time. In the meantime, the experience has been an opportunity for him to practice English and discover a talent for public speaking. “Seeing what I’m achieving now with the GDG has helped me realise that I’m capable of achieving more,” he says. In the future, Alex hopes to be an Android programmer and work for Google.
