Association France-IOI | Training in programming and algorithmics

Bringing programming to students

Association France IOI helps students to discover Computer Science. In 2015, Google awarded a RISE grant to the Association to build a platform offering free online content for children aged 12 and upwards to get started with programming and algorithms. The platform, which launches in September 2016, allows students to progress quickly from getting started with programming to being able to enter the top international competitions.

Automatic advice and feedback is built into the platform, enabling students to ask peers who have already solved the tasks for help. In 2016, Google awarded an additional grant to the Association in order to extend the content for the platform. This allowed Association France IOI to add materials designed to teach children aged nine and upwards the basics of programming in a fun and visual way.

Mathias Hiron, Co-Founder and President of Association France IOI, explains, “Google's support has been essential to Association France IOI's rapid transition from teaching programming and algorithmics to gifted and passionate kids, to supporting a much broader audience of students and teachers, as programming is progressively being introduced into the French official curriculum.” The platform is designed to be used in schools by teachers and computer science clubs, and by individual students and their parents at home.
